SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A student was removed from a Central Jersey high school after he made violent threats while playing a video game at home.

South Brunswick High School principal Peter Varela in a letter to parents said he was tipped off about comments a student made about “shooting up” the school as he played a video game “of a violent nature” Wednesday, according to TAP into South Brunswick.

An investigation by South Brunswick Police determined there was no credible threat to the school, according to the report.

“The safety of our children and schools is our top priority,” Chief of Police Raymond Hayducka said. “We will continue to work with our educators to ensure a safe school environment.”

Representatives of the school district and police have not yet returned messages seeking comment.
