Another Cold Night in New Jersey

Our brutal winter just won’t give up and continues its late season appearance in parts of New Jersey with another cold night.

Much of south and central New Jersey and Union, Essex, Hudson and Bergen counties are under a Freeze Warning again as temperatures go back to the 20s and low 30s overnight. Sensitive and early-blooming vegetation are at risk and should be covered or brought indoors.

No snow is in the forecast and Thursday doesn’t look to be much warmer than Wednesday with high temperatures around 50.

Measurable amounts reported by the National Weather Service for early Wednesday include an inch-and-a-half in Freehold and Highland Lakes in Sussex County, an inch in Manalapan and Wantage and a half-inch in Atco, Roxbury and Boonton.

New Jersey Fast Traffic weekend anchor Bernie Wagenblast, who resides in Cranford,  joked, “Wow, the pollen must be terrible this year. My car is dusted in white this morning. Oh, hold on. That’s not pollen, it’s snow!”

Rain and thunderstorms turned to sleet and snow in many areas on Tuesday night that continued into Wednesday morning.  Roads and highways were too warm for snow accumulation but it left a a small coating of slush and sleet that made driving a challenge.

“Driving on Route 571 was no picnic” commented meteorologist Alan Kasper, referring to his early morning drive to work across inland Ocean County. The New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway all reduced speeds overnight
