Two people were injured when a small U.S. Coast Guard plane crash-landed into tree in Bergen County Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 5 p.m. in Cresskill, when the aircraft crashed into trees at Regan Field right, located behind the Cresskill Community Center, according to an ABC 7 NY report. The plane, a Cessna 172, took off from Linden Airport in Union County at about 4:30 p.m.


The Record that pilots had checked in with a tower at LaGuardia Airport. The pilots initially considered crash-landing in the Hudson River.

The U.S. Coast Guard told ABC7 that the plane was an auxiliary aircraft flown by volunteers who were performing a survey of the Hudson River. The two passengers were injured but are expected to survive.
