LAVALLETTE  — A man was found dead on the beach early Saturday morning in an apparent suicide.

Residents called police after shots were fired near a boat ramp in the area of Washington Avenue and Bay Boulevard.

Chief Colin M. Grant told New Jersey 101.5 police found the man's body around 4 a.m. Grant said it appeared the man took his own life and that there was no danger to the community.

Grant did not disclose the identity of the deceased.
