OCEAN CITY — Police are looking for an alleged seagull killer.

According to a statement posted on the Ocean City Police Department's Facebook page, officials are looking for a man a witness claims is responsible for killing a seagull on a local beach Monday.

Police initially spoke with the man who allegedly killed the seagull after responding to a call, but he claimed he hit the bird with an umbrella after it was being aggressive toward young children on the beach, the statement reads. Police left the scene, and no charges were filed.

Police then returned to the scene a short time later after another witness offered a different account.

According to the statement, the second witness said the man was acting maliciously toward the bird, and that the bird was not threatening children. Officers were unable to question the man a second time because he left the beach before police returned, police said.

Facebook user Brittany DePasquale posted this video of the man she alleged is the one who killed the seagull. Police have released an image that appears to be taken from the same video, according to several reports.

The New Jersey State Department of Fish and Wildlife has been informed, and authorities are asking anyone with information to call Ocean City police at 609-399-9111.
