SEASIDE HEIGHTS — A man has been indicted on charges of beating his neighbor's small dog to death.

Nicolas Piccolino, 34, is facing trial on third-degree degree animal cruelty charges in the August death of a 10 year-old female bichon frise named Booshu.

Piccolino claimed that the dog "dirtied" herself in her crate and that he dropped her while he was cleaning up.

A necropsy report concluded that multiple blunt force injuries to Booshu's head and body contributed to her death, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato said.

An upstairs neighbor, however, told a NJSPCA investigator they heard loud banging and a dog yelping.

Booshu's owner found her on the bathroom floor and took her to Red Bank Animal Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Piccolino is being held at the Ocean County Jail with bail set at $35,000.
