School Security Forum in Neptune Tuesday [AUDIO]

April marks four months since Sandy Hook school shootings. In New Jersey, school districts continue to strengthen their security measures, examine their plans and work on ways to protect our children when they are at school. A special forum is set for Tuesday in Monmouth County that turns the focus on the past, present and future of this complicated issue.

Parents, local officials and other citizens will hear the viewpoints of law enforcement and education officials during Safe and Secure Schools: A Parents’ Forum, starting at 6:45 p.m. at Neptune High School. The program is sponsored by the New Jersey School Boards Association.

The forum will feature a panel of law enforcement professionals and educators who will discuss approaches that school districts are taking to improve safety. In addition, time will be dedicated to a question-and-answer session.

“Even before the December shooting, our state had strict protections in place, but some were similar or the same as Newtown. We are working on plans to make things even stronger – whether armed police officers, security survillence equipment and better control around the permiter of the school buildings,” said NJBA spokesman Frank Belluscio.

Belluscio added, “This isn’t a one sized fits all kind of plan. We have a task force set up and every district is different.”

There is no charge to attend the program. However, pre-registration is required.
