The exhibit will open in April 2014 at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J., just across the Hudson River from New York City.

The 67-year-old Rubik was an architect teaching a class in his native Budapest in 1974 when he built a cube to teach students about three-dimensional space. Since then more than 500 million Rubik’s Cubes have been sold.

Puzzle-users can learn from experts or books. But Rubik says it’s best for everyone to “find your own solution.”

Rubik is to be honored Friday at a gala at the Science Center.
