Romney Campaign Rejects Obama Camp’s Offer On Taxes

Mitt Romney’s campaign says it’s clear that President Barack Obama just wants to talk about Romney’s taxes, rather than “the issues that matter to voters.”

It’s rejecting an offer from the Democrats. The Obama campaign offered to stop pushing for further releases of Romney’s tax returns, if the Republican will release five years of those returns. Romney has released only his 2010 return, and is pledging to release the one from 2011.

Yesterday, Romney said he went back and looked at his tax returns from the past decade, and found that he had paid at least 13 percent of his income in federal taxes in each of those years. Democrats said he should prove it.

Meanwhile, the Obama campaign has launched a new ad defending the president’s record on Medicare. The ad accuses Romney and running mate Paul Ryan of undermining the health care program that is critical for millions of seniors.
