A college student from Rockaway fell to his death while taking pictures from the scaffolding at the Four Season Hotel in Manhattan on Wednesday night, according to the NYPD.

Connor Cummings, 24, was with an 18-year-old male friend and had climbed to the 52nd floor and fell nine stories down an interior shaft to a lower level rooftop according to police investigators. The friend, who is not being identified by the NYPD, climbed down the scaffolding to call for help and was questioned by police. No charges have been filed. Cummings was not a hotel guest.

Police said they have recovered Cummings' photography bag. He attends the University of Massachusetts at Amherst according to his Facebook page. A representative from the Morris Hills school district confirmed Cummings was a 2014 graduate of Morris Knolls High Schools.

ABC 7 reports that Cummings family said he is not a "daredevil" as he is being described in some media reports but simply a "photography buff."
