“I applaud this sound decision that supports equality for all New Jerseyans.

“Gov. Christie needs to finally get the message and stop doing everything he can to stand in the way of civil rights. I sincerely hope he now drops his effort to prevent all loving couples from receiving equal treatment under the law.

“Enough is enough, governor. Do the right thing. Let Oct. 21 be a day of celebration across our state.”

Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg

“This is the right decision for the right reasons. It is a clear and definitive statement that reinforces the position that gay marriage in New Jersey should be legal and that any delays will deny the rights and the benefits of marriage to same-sex couples. I urge the governor to stand down from his attempts to block loving couples from the right to marry and allow the legal decision to take effect on October 21st. He is the only one standing in the way of the inevitable tide of justice that will bring marriage equality to New Jersey.”

Senator Barbara Buono (D)

“Today’s ruling is a victory for all those who support equality. Our gay brothers and sisters have waited long enough for equal treatment under the law and the right to marry. I am elated that they will finally have the opportunity to get married right here in the Garden State.

“However, Governor Christie remains firmly on the wrong side of history, steadfast in his commitment to blocking marriage equality in New Jersey.

“It is time for Governor Christie to put New Jersey first and stop delaying marriage equality.”

Assemblyman Reed Gusciora

“This is just a simple recognition that everyone is equal under the law.

“This is a great day for our state and for the thousands of families who have been waiting patiently to be recognized equally by their government.

“I want to thank Judge Jacobson for recognizing that the equality promised in our constitution should not be denied a moment longer. As this case moves forward, I hope the high court will share this same sentiment.”
