Pursuit Ends in Crash at NJ Turnpike Toll Booth
A lengthy police pursuit in northern New Jersey ended when the suspect's car crashed into a toll-booth median on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Authorities say 35-year-old Qawwee McQueen of Newark purposely hit a marked police cruiser during the chase, which began around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in Elizabeth. A detective in the cruiser suffered undisclosed injuries that are not considered life-threatening,
The chase ended around 11 a.m., when McQueen's car crashed at the entrance to Interchange 13 entrance. He was captured moments later after a short foot chase.
McQueen was wanted on weapons and aggravated assault charges stemming from a February shooting in Elizabeth. He now faces additional charges of eluding and aggravated assault on a police officer.
He's also wanted on weapons charges in Newark.
