Power restored at Rutgers, classes to run as normal Thursday

NEW BRUNSWICK -- Classes will resume as normal Thursday morning on the Cook/Douglass campus of Rutgers University as intermittent power outages over the course of two days, which forced residents to evacuate and seek temporary housing elsewhere, have been resolved.

According to the Rutgers website's Residence Life page, buses will begin picking up students at the university's three official temporary locations at 7 a.m. Thursday.

An email to students further stated that all buildings are "open and operating," and thanked those affected for their "patience and understanding."

More than 3,000 students were displaced Wednesday night as a result of the outages, in what the school called a "fire-safety issue."

Rutgers student newspaper The Daily Targum quoted at least one Cook/Douglass resident, frustrated by the power problems affecting her quality of life on campus, who may seek a refund from the university for room and board fees. School officials have not yet publicly addressed that concern.
