Port Authority Must Raise Toll to Fund Projects, Says Audit
An independent audit says the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey must raise tolls to maintain its transportation infrastructure and fund capital projects.
The report is being released Wednesday.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the audit as a condition of toll increases they approved in 2011.
The auditor's first report earlier this year called the agency "dysfunctional and challenged."
Wednesday's report says the Port Authority is making significant reforms and has improved transparency and communication. The Port Authority operates airports, seaports, a train system, and several bridges and tunnels that link the two states. It also owns the site of the new World Trade Center.
