The head of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says he supports making a spherical sculpture that survived the Sept. 11 attacks at the World Trade Center part of the site's permanent memorial.

Memorial organizers have been opposed to including the sphere.

Patrick Foye made his remarks at the Port Authority's board meeting Thursday, following a public comment by a man whose older brother was a firefighter who died at the twin towers.

Michael Burke criticized officials in charge of the memorial and still-to-be-completed 9/11 museum for refusing to include any artifacts that survived the attacks.

The 25-foot-tall, 45,000-pound sphere has sat in lower Manhattan's Battery Park for a decade but must be moved to make way for park renovations.

Foye said including it in the memorial would be "entirely appropriate."
