Law enforcement officials have ruled the death of a Newark woman found unresponsive in her car a homicide.

The Essex County Homicide Task force says 37-year-old Silvia Paucar was discovered by her 16-year-old son and her brother in her vehicle in Newark Wednesday night after she failed to return home following night classes.

Paucar was taken to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m.

An autopsy concluded it was a homicide, but police are withholding the manner of death due to an ongoing investigation.

Essex County Chief of Detectives Anthony Ambrose says police believe Paucar was targeted and the killing was not random.
