Police: Man Drove Drunk on Wildwood Crest Boardwalk

Wildwood Crest authorities say an allegedly drunk man drove down the resort city's boardwalk with two children in his vehicle and then tried to steal a police cruiser.

The Press of Atlantic City says bail was set at $200,000 for Robert Carter, a 37-year-old Bridgeton resident who was charged with child endangerment, aggravated assault and carjacking.

Police saw Carter's car exit the pedestrian ramp around 8 a.m. Sunday. He then headed southbound on the bicycle path, and officers eventually stopped the vehicle in a motel parking lot.

Authorities say Carter got out of his car and began arguing with police, then ran to an unoccupied police vehicle and tried to drive away before he was stopped by an officer.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
