Police say the grenade was found on Saturday at about 11 p.m. in an area cleared for new construction in Lakewood.

The bomb squad responded and determined that the grenade was inert. Police say the bomb squad collected the grenade to destroy it.

It's unclear whether the grenade was dumped at the site or dug up by excavating equipment.

Police didn't say who found the grenade.
