Police investigating a suspected serial murder on New York's Long Island say they have found a purse, cellphone and jeans belonging to a missing New Jersey prostitute.

But Suffolk County Police Commissioner Richard Dormer said Wednesday that officers have not found any remains of Shannan Gilbert, who they believe drowned.

The search for the 24-year-old Jersey City woman led to the eventual discovery of 10 bodies strewn along several miles of beach highway on a barrier island south of Long Island. Police do not believe the woman's disappearance and the killings of the 10 people are related.

Gilbert disappeared May 1, 2010. She was last seen at a client's home in Oak Beach, a gated seashore community several miles east of Jones Beach State Park.
