Police Call Off Search For Suspect in Garfield
Police have called off the intensive search for a domestic violence suspect in Garfield after lifting a lock down on a northern New Jersey school.
The chase began when police responded Wednesday morning to a domestic violence call in Passaic. The search was called off at 3 p.m.
Passaic Police Detective Andy White tells The Record that the 47-year-old man drove off in a van as officers approached his home.
White says the suspect crossed a river into Garfield and crashed into a building before fleeing on foot. White says the man then attempted to carjack a vehicle.
Officials have not released the name of the man, who remained at large late Wednesday afternoon.
Abraham Lincoln School 6 was locked down as a precaution.
