Overturned Truck Blocks Lanes on Route 1

An overturned truck on Route 1 in Edison is causing a traffic nightmare Friday afternoon.

The truck overturned at Plainfield Avenue at around 11 a.m. and is leaking fuel. Two lanes are now passing on the northbound side, causing delays back to Ryder Lane in New Brunswick, according to New Jersey Fast Traffic. Southbound delays have developed back to I-287.

News 12 New Jersey's Kurt Siegelin tweets that the clean up will take several hours.

The disruption comes at an inopportune time for Christmas shoppers, occurring just five miles from the Menlo Park Mall in Woodbridge.
