Officer Hurt in Scuffle with Suspect
LAKEHURST (AP) — Authorities say a man under the influence of drugs attacked and injured a police officer before he was finally subdued with the aid of another officer.
Lakehurst police tell the Asbury Park Press that 29-year-old Samuel Legg, who has addresses in Jackson and Seaside Heights, faces numerous counts including aggravated assault on a police officer and making terroristic threats.
The attack occurred around 5:15 a.m. Saturday, when officer Joseph DePasquale responded to disorderly persons report. Legg allegedly ran toward DePasquale's police cruiser, threatening to kill him.
A scuffle ensued and DePasquale was injured when Legg allegedly struck him twice in the neck. Legg eventually was subdued after he was pepper sprayed.
Legg's bail was set at $75,000 cash. It wasn't known if he had retained an attorney.
