North Jersey cop captures 2-foot iguana

ROCHELLE PARK (AP) — It was the day of the iguana in North Jersey when a police officer captured a 2-foot reptile.

Police in Rochelle Park have been getting reports for several weeks of sightings behind the Valley National Bank.

Detective Sgt. James DePreta tells The Record that Sgt. Ed Kukalski, who had reptiles as pets, cornered the iguana and other officers tried to distract it on Monday.

Kukalski suffered some scrapes on his wrists.

Police posted photos on Facebook, the owners saw them and picked up their iguana.

DePreta says they have chased plenty of cats and dogs and other domestic animals "but never a lizard."
