NJ Will Address Math, Science Teacher Shortage with Fellowships

New Jersey will become the first East Coast state to address the shortage of science and math teachers by recruiting, training and funding people with strong backgrounds in those fields through a national fellowship program.

The state will participate in the Princeton-based Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship program, which offers $30,000 stipends for graduate school in exchange for three-year commitments to teach in high-need urban or rural schools.

Gov. Chris Christie will announce details at a news conference scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Arthur Levine, the president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, is also scheduled to attend.
