Hazlet teenager struck and killed by NJ Transit train Monday
A 17-year-old Raritan High School student was the person struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train in Hazlet early Monday, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
The newspaper quoted an NJ Transit spokeswoman's identification of the victim as Nicholas G. Kansky of Hazlet.
Earllier, NJ Transit spokesman William Smith said the victim was struck by New York-bound train, after stepping in front of it at approximately 5:30 a.m. Monday, near the Aberdeen Matawan station on Beers Street at Bedle Road in Hazlet.
Smith says 50 people were aboard the train, and there was no report of injuries.
Smith says the incident is under investigation and there is no immediate word of the age or identity of the person struck by the train.
