NJ Transit Back To Normal Following Delays

NJ Transit service in and out of New York’s Penn Station is back to normal following problems that started in two areas this morning.

The Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, and M&E Midtown Direct lines all had delays of up to 90 minutes when the Portal Bridge  got stuck in up position leaving passengers trapped inside trains on both sides of the river, some of which don’t have heat according to some tweets from passengers.

There may be some isolated delays as the after noon goes on.

In another tweet from @NJTransit, the railroad said “if possible, trains are backing up to return customers to stations.”

The portal bridge has carried trains between New York and New Jersey since 1910 according to NJ Transit who says 150,000 NJ Transit and 16,000 Amtrak riders are transported across the bridge daily.

Earlier on Wednesday morning a fractured rail near Princeton Junction caused delays on the Northeast Corridor of up to 45 minutes between Trenton & New York.

The Raritan Valley Line between Cranford and Newark Penn Station also experienced problems in the morning.
