NJ Senate Committee Advances Health Insurance Exchange

A New Jersey state Senate committee has again advanced a bill that would create a state-run health insurance exchange.

But the real suspense is what will happen when the measure gets to Gov. Chris Christie's desk.

The Legislature approved a similar bill earlier this year, but the governor vetoed it.

Christie said Monday that he wants to take time to decide how New Jersey's exchange will work. He says it may be best to let the federal government run it for the state.

Under federal law, each state has to decide by Nov. 16 what kind of exchange it will use as part of a federal health insurance overhaul. The exchanges are intended to be a place people can buy health insurance.
