With the memory of last February's Super Bowl power outage front and center, officials have laid out plans for how they plan to avoid a similar problem at MetLife Stadium in February.

The head of Public Service Electric & Gas says the utility is running a third power line into the electrical substation at the Meadowlands sports complex. PSE&G president Ralph LaRossa said Thursday that even if two of the power lines fail, the third would be enough to power the complex.

LaRossa said the Super Bowl site will require about 18 megawatts of electricity, or about what it takes to power 12,000 homes.

A partial power outage that caused a 34-minute delay at the Superdome was blamed on an electrical relay device installed specifically to prevent a power failure.
