A Wayne man has been arrested after allegedly beating a puppy to death with a kitchen chair during a fight.

Wayne Police said they received a 911 call about a fight with another person on Friday at John G. Varcadipone's home. The caller accused Varcadipone, 23, of beating a 6-month-old husky, police said.

Responding officers and a representative of the Passaic County SPCA found blood and broken furniture all over the home, and spoke to several witnesses, police said.

Police said they tracked Varcadipone to Chilton Hospital, where he was being treated for injuries related to the fight. Varcadipone was taken to Wayne Police headquarters and charged with aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault and cruelty to an animal resulting in death, police said.

Varcadipone was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail at the Passaic County Jail.
