Assemblyman John McKeon has introduced a resolution that would designate Aug. 14 as "Half St. Valentine's Day."

The resolution calls on Gov. Chris Christie to issue a proclamation calling on citizens to celebrate the day with appropriate activities and events. And it encourages people to help local businesses who may have lost customers because of the weather.

McKeon tells The Star-Ledger of Newark (http://bit.ly/1pv2m5p ) there's nothing wrong trying to help merchants get people in the door at a slow time of year.

There were 2 1/2 inches of snow in Newark and temperatures were below freezing on Valentine's Day.
