HACKENSACK — A man who police believe is responsible for dealing drugs throughout the east coast was arrested on Tuesday and released after authorities found more than his license and registration in his car during a traffic stop.

Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced on Wednesday that police had arrested Gerald Flores, 46, of the Bronx, on a money laundering charge. Grewal said authorities were alerted to  Flores' possible involvement in drug distribution in April, and searched his vehicle during Tuesday's stop. He said they found more than $300,000 in cash in a hidden compartment in the car.

Grewal said Flores was arrested without incident and charged with second-degree transporting or possessing property believed to be derived from criminal activity, in an amount greater than $75,000 and less than $500,000.

Flores was processed and released with a first court date set for June 28.
