NJ Child Sex Assault Suspect Extradited From Colombia

Prosecutors say a man accused of sexually assaulting three children in northern New Jersey has been returned to the United States.

Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow says 37-year-old Anyelo Martinez went to Colombia shortly before he was charged in March 2011 with multiple sex assault counts involving two young girls and an infant boy. Martinez's wife and children followed him to Colombia days later.

Romankow says his office searched for Martinez, who eventually was arrested in Colombia in August 2011. He was returned to Union County on Thursday, and it was not known if he has retained an attorney.

The case marks the first time the county's child advocacy center has located a defendant in another country.
