Newark-Bound Plane Makes Emergency Landing At New Orleans Airport

A United Airlines plane bound for New Jersey has made an emergency landing in New Orleans.

Officials with United Airlines tell WDSU-TV that Flight 1146 to Newark diverted Tuesday afternoon to New Orleans due to a mechanical issue that arose after the plane departed from Houston.

The Boeing 787 jet landed safely in New Orleans.

United says the flight carried 174 passengers and 10 crew members. The airline says it's working with Boeing to determine what caused the unscheduled stop.

There's no word on whether the passengers have continued their journey. An airport spokeswoman referred all questions to the airline, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.
