The Thanksgiving Holiday will be a bit unusual in the Scott household this year.

Due to quirky schedules our family dinner will not be held until Saturday, in order to accommodate traveling relatives. I'm ok with that.

What to do on Thursday? I wanted to take my two sons out to do some holiday volunteering. They were into the idea. It would be a chance for us to not only give back, but also see firsthand how blessed our family has been. The problem? No one seems to need our help.

I must have called a dozen charities, soup kitchens, and food pantries, and none of them needed us. Some never even bothered to call back. I guess that's a good thing. It's good that there appear to be enough of us willing to give a little back in these tough times. However, I really did want to use this holiday as a chance to teach my boys about the importance of taking stock of how blessed we are, and lending help to those who are struggling.
