The NCAA has levied a host of penalties against Kean University for what it calls a lack of institutional control over its athletics department.

Among the sanctions are a four-year probation period for all athletic teams and a postseason ban next season for the women's basketball team.

Kean has banned its men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball teams from postseason play this fall.

The NCAA report found former women's basketball coach Michele Sharp violated rules by interceding to get a player's grade changed and offering players class credits for the team's summer trip to Spain.

Sharp was fired in January. She had led Kean to the national Division III playoffs six times.

Athletic director Chris Morgan said in a statement Thursday that the school accepts responsibility for the infractions.
