More trouble at Rutgers: 7 arrested after student robbed and beaten
Seven men have been arrested by Rutgers University Police for the on campus assault of a student.
News 12 New Jersey reports the men, who are not Rutgers students, robbed and beat up the student as they exited the College Avenue gymnasium around 1 a.m. on Sept. 7. Police were called and found a knife, brass knuckles and unspecified stolen items,
Rocco Mills, Gennaro Toscano, Aidan Kollmar and Cody Sorrentino, all from Green Brook, David Velazquez from Warren, and Kevin Holmes and Michael Divito-Piscoya of Easton, A. were all arrested and charged with robbery and aggravated assault.
None of those involved are football players — though many of the school's woes have centered around its football team in recent weeks.
Five players have been kicked off the team entirely, after being arrested in connection with a series of violent crimes. Ex-players were implicated in some of the same incidents — an attack that left a student with a broken jaw, and a series of armed home invasions in which authorities say drugs and cash were stolen.
And player Leonte Carroo was suspended after an incident outside of the team's stadium this weekend — though so far, no one's saying why. Authorities said more information would be released by Rutgers police.
