Steve Abel, who runs the veterans assistance program at Rutgers, says the New Jersey Bankers Association provides assistance to recent vets when their college assistance leaves gaps.

Abel says, "We are exceptionally grateful to the generosity of New Jersey's bankers."

Bankers Association Vice-President Jim Meredith says they also have established a scholarship fund for the families of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who have been killed in action or who have died. It is known as the New Jersey Bankers Education Foundation.

It provides scholarships for the dependents, whether it be a spouse, a child, or stepchild, so that they can continue or begin their education.
