More Bad News for Atlantic City Casinos

Atlantic City's newest casino has been making gains, but despite an improved July there was not nearly enough to keep the city's gambling industry as a whole from taking another hit.

New Jersey's Division of Gaming Enforcement announced Friday that the city's casinos won $308 million in July.

That's down 9.5 percent from July 2011 -- a month that had an extra Friday and Saturday.

Some of the city's hopes for a turnaround have been pinned on the new Revel casino, which opened in April more slowly than many expected.

The new casino's gambling revenue grew to $17.5 million in July, an increase from $14.9 million from June. But the casino's revenue still ranks 8th in the city.
