The annual Monmouth County Fair will not be opening tonight.

There is a projection of strong thunderstorms moving through the area, said Andrew Spears, spokesman for Monmouth County Park Systems and superintendent of recreation.

“If the weather is nice, we do expect to open 5 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) with a full schedule of activities and entertainment,” Spears said.

Wet weather has always been a fair tradition, with at least one rain day. While last year the fair opened to sunny skies, 2010’s opening day saw high temperatures and the threat of area thunderstorms.

The fair, held on county grounds on Kozloski Road is scheduled to run until 11 p.m. Friday, with hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
