WYCKOFF — A man has filed a lawsuit against a township police officer who killed his dog after mistakenly going to the wrong address during a burglary investigation.

Goran Vukobratovic claims in court papers he suffered "great pain, shock and mental anguish" after the family German shepherd named Otto was killed, NJ.com reported.

On April 29, 2015, police received a report of a possible break-in at a home. But Officer Kyle Ferreira went by mistake to house No. 622 instead of No. 621.

No one answered the front door so the patrolman went around back. The dog lunged out an open window and bit the officer.

The dog was shot twice.

The suit claims the township failed to adequately supervise Ferreira. It seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Wyckoff's mayor says he can't comment.
