An overturned tractor trailer on Route 78 eastbound caused big problems for commuters on several roadways Friday morning.

As of 8:10 a.m., New Jersey Fast Traffic's Bob Williams said local lanes remained closed at exit 50 for Vauxhall Road in Union, with delays stretching back to at least Berkeley Heights. The express lanes and westbound lanes were slow with rubbernecking. Traffic was slowed down on southbound Route 24 exiting onto both sides of Route 78 as was Parkway traffic headed for westbound Route 78.

New Jersey State Police said a person was ejected from a car involved in the incident, which happened just after 6 a.m.

Williams said Route 22 east is an alternative to Route 78 but is slow approaching the Parkway.

New Jersey State Police said the tractor-trailer overturned while trying, and failing, to avoid striking a Honda Odyssey. The car's driver, a 26-year-old woman, was ejected but only suffered minor injuries, police said. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured, they said.

The truck was carrying sheet rock, which was being cleaned up from the roadway mid-Friday morning.
