LINDEN — What started as an investigation into one shooting in the city on Sunday night has expanded to include other incidents as well.

Police reported the first shooting happened around 1:15 Sunday morning on the 1600 block of Clinton Street. In that case a 23-year-old man was shot once and taken to University Hospital in Newark with what was described as "non-life threatening injuries."

Later in the day, additional shootings were reported in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Bower Street, and also on East Curtis Street. There were no injuries reported from those shootings, and police were unsure if the shootings were connected.

Chief Jonathan Parham said stopping violence in the city "requires a robust and consistent partnership between the police and the community."

"Timely notification, coupled with specific information helps us locate and ultimately prosecute the criminal element that place our loved ones in danger," he said. "I encourage anyone who has any information about these incidents, or any other incidents that leave residents fearing for their safety, to please communicate this information to us in whatever way is most comfortable for you."

The chief added, "You, your family, and your neighbors deserve a community free of violence."

Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call Det/Sgt. Jeff Carhart at 908-474-8467.
