When Temple takes on Notre Dame on South Bend, Indiana on Saturday Bon Jovi fans will notice a familiar figure on the sidelines: Jesse Bongiovi, the son of Jon Bon Jovi, who is playing cornerback for the Fighting Irish.
“Jesse has earned his spot on the 105. He’s a tough kid. The kids really like him. They respect him. They don’t look at him as a rock star’s son,” said Kelly at the season opening press conference. “They look at him as a kid that loves Notre Dame and wants to play football and help this team. He’s had a good summer. Coach Longo liked his work ethic and the way he competed.
According to his official bio on the Notre Dame website, Jesse was a New York CIty football all-star, an all-conference midfielder in lacrosse and a member of the school’s Blue Key Society.
Bongiovi is not the only member of the team with a celebrity parent. Philly.comnotes that
safety Austin Collinsworth is the son of current NBC broadcaster Chris Collinsworth,
receiver Torii Hunter Jr.’s father plays for the Detroit Tigers and wide receiver Corey Robinson’s father is former San Antonio Spur David Robinson, Jr.
