Islanders overwhelmed by Leafs in loss

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- Phil Kessel scored two goals to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-2 rout over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.

Nine Maple Leafs finished with at least one point, led by Kessel's three. James van Riemsdyk and Mike Santorelli had two points apiece.

Roman Polak, van Riemsdyk and David Clarkson also scored goals for Toronto (3-3-1), which has earned points in four of its last five games.

Jonathan Bernier made 32 saves.

Nick Leddy and John Tavares scored for New York (4-2-0), which lost its second game in a row Jaroslav Halak allowed five goals on 23 shots before being replaced by Chad Johnson at the start of the third period.

Johnson stopped all five shots he faced.
