What's the most likely car in America to be stolen?

The National Insurance Crime Bureau is out with a list of the top ten cars that were swiped last year.

Spokesman Frank Scafidi says in first place, "We've got the 1994 Honda Accord - and to the people that own Hondas, that's not surprising.  It's a good car, it runs forever. At number two, it was the 1998 Honda Civic, number 3 was the 2006 Ford full-size pickup, at four was the Toyota Camry, 1991 model year.  And rounding out the top 5, the 2000 Dodge Caravan."

So, what can you do to try and protect your car from being stolen?

"Just the very simple act of locking your doors will thwart a number of these - we call them opportunists - these are people who will see an easy target," says Scafidi, "We stress to people - look, the car comes with locks, it comes with keys, use em- don't leave the car running when you go someplace to get a quick cup of coffee - don't leave the keys in the ignition…You should not leave your car unlocked, with the keys in the ignition because you know they're safe there and you'll know where to find em, because other people are looking sometimes and it just makes it easy."

He say if you want even more security "you can go out and purchase wheel locks or immobilizer devices or kill switches…But remember, thieves strike in all neighborhoods, all kinds of vehicles, all kinds of places.  The ultimate realization is that if your vehicle - if somebody wants your car - if you've got a vehicle that a real accomplished thief wants to get- they're gonna get it."
