Indictment: NJ Mom Set Fire, Left Toddler Alone

A northern New Jersey mom accused of setting fire to her apartment and leaving her toddler daughter there alone has been indicted on aggravated arson and child endangerment charges.

Twenty-seven-year old Murlande Colin of Roselle Park faces up to 20 years in prison if she's convicted. The indictment handed up by a Union County grand jury was made public Monday.

The July 9 fire at the Woodside Gardens Complex was discovered by the building superintendent, who entered the apartment with two passers-by. They found the 2-year-old girl in a bedroom, near an active iron smoldering atop clothing. There also were smoldering clothes on top of a lit stove.

Colin was found several hours later in a neighboring town. A telephone number for her could not be found Monday.
