On Monday, Joseph Gonsalves of Howell was arrested and charged with second degree vehicular homicide for the death of a 21-year-old rear-seat passenger, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said the driver was in violation of multiple laws, including driving while intoxicated, underage driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, speeding, and failure to maintain lane.

Gonsalves' bail has been set at $75,000 with no 10 percent cash alternative.

The incident - which is under review by both the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and Howell Township Police Department - noted that Gonsalves was speeding just before the crash as well.

According to an emailed press release, if Gonsalves is found guilty, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

If you have additional information on the case, call Detective Eric Kerecman of the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office at 1-800-533-7443 or Patrolman Matthew Cherney of the Howell Police Department at 732-938-4575.
