Homicide on the Turnpike: Man found bleeding, unconscious at Exit 12
CARTERET — The discovery of a bleeding man on an entrance ramp led to the closure of a New Jersey Turnpike on-ramp on Monday morning.
New Jersey State Police said a bleeding, unconscious man was found on the on-ramp to the truck lanes of the Turnpike from exit No. 12 in Carteret around 3:20 a.m. The ramp was closed for the morning commute and reopened around 10:30 a.m.
Spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez would not confirm reports the incident involved a stabbing, as tweeted by News 12's Tony Caputo and some other media.
He did not say where, specifically the body was found.
A rubbernecking delay led to a multimile delay in both the car and truck lanes, and the suspension of the HOV lanes.
State Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office questioned a woman connected to the incident, who is currently in custody.
State police said their information was "preliminary only."
