NEW YORK (AP) -- Federal officials say two women with guns in their handbags have been stopped at checkpoints within 90 minutes of each other at John F. Kennedy Airport.

The Transportation Security Administration says officers found a BB gun in one woman's bag at around 5:45 a.m. Thursday. The New York City resident got a summons.

Then officers say an X-ray machine detected a .40-caliber, semi-automatic unloaded handgun in another woman's purse at 7:15 a.m.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police arrested 40-year-old Nerelis Beatriz Wiseman of Chatham on a weapons possession charge.

She's awaiting arraignment and doesn't yet have an attorney. Her husband declined to comment.

She told TSA officers she forgot the weapon was with her.

Flyers can bring guns in checked luggage but not in carry-ons.
