About 50 veterans, residents and officials attended Thursday's ceremony in Pompton Lakes.

The group Mission of Honor collected the remains after failing to find their relatives.

One of the vets served in the Mexican Border War near the start of the 20th Century. Most of the others served during the world wars.

The Record newspaper reports the volunteer group has reunited 170 remains with next of kin since it started in 2009. It has buried 79 veterans.
